The STIHL GTA 40 is STIHL’s first dedicated battery-powered pruner designed for professional use. Part of the AS System, it runs on 2x AS 2 lithium-ion batteries, delivering reliable cordless power for a variety of tasks. You can use it safely on the ground or in the air*, making it perfect for tree and shrub care, horticulture, landscaping, wood processing, and crown reduction.
The GTA 40 features a high-performance EC engine and a ¼” PM3 saw chain for clean, accurate cuts. Its variable chain speed gives you full control over cutting performance. The sprocket cover includes side-mounted chain tensioning and automatic chain lubrication, ensuring smooth operation. The tool-free chain oil tank holds enough oil to work through six AS 2 batteries without refilling.
STIHL designed the GTA 40 with a soft rubberized handle and upper grip to prevent slipping. A claw-shaped deflector separates the grip area from the cutting attachment for added safety. The tool works with both right and left-handed users, thanks to rocker controls on both sides. An attachment ring lets you hook the pruner on your belt for easy access, while the optional GTA 40 holster provides quick access during work.
The GTA 40 comes with a hardcase that stores the tool, up to six AS 2 batteries, and the AL 5-2 high-speed charger. The charger can fully recharge two batteries simultaneously in 50 minutes, keeping your workflow uninterrupted. The tool’s charge level indicator sits on top in a clear, easy-to-read position.
The GTA 40 requires two AS 2 batteries and cannot operate with only one. STIHL recommends using both hands during operation to maintain control and safety.

You will receive an email letting you know when your order has been dispatched. Once your order has been dispatched, the delivery will be attempted twice on consecutive days. If the carriers need to try a third attempt, you may be liable for a re-delivery charge.
We use a courier service to deliver larger items, which normally requires a signature. If you are likely to be out when our delivery is due, you may enter delivery instructions (e.g. ‘Please leave order in porch’) in the order notes as you check out. However, if you do ask for goods to be left on your property while you are out, the courier will be unable to get a signature, so this is at your own risk.
