Knots at Work: A Field Guide for the Modern Arborist is a 184-page reference designed for arborists, tree climbers, and rope professionals. It focuses on practical knots used in climbing, rigging, and tree work.

Written by Jeff Jepson, author of The Tree Climber’s Companion and To Fell a Tree, the book combines professional insight with hands-on instruction. It covers over fifty essential knots, showing not only how to tie them but also when, why, and where to use them safely in the field.

Each knot includes step-by-step instructions and detailed illustrations by Bryan Kotwica. This makes even complex knots easy to understand. Beginners can learn foundational techniques, while experienced arborists can refine their rope systems.

In addition to instructions, the book provides history, practical tips, and advice for real-world applications. Readers learn the strengths and weaknesses of each knot and how to choose the right one for each situation.

The guide is organized for quick reference. You can search by knot type or by job function. This makes it an invaluable tool for on-site use. Whether setting up rigging systems, preparing climbing routes, or maintaining rope skills, this book helps professionals work safely and efficiently.

Compact and comprehensive, Knots at Work: A Field Guide for the Modern Arborist bridges the gap between theory and practice. It ensures that essential knot knowledge is always at your fingertips, ready for use in the field.
